Tim Benstead Associates Ltd (TBA) is a practice of independent consultants. We specialise in electrical safety and electrical installations based on BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).
The practice offers consultancy services in all aspects of electrical safety and electrical installations including amongst other things, surveys, audits and design. The practice also carries out investigations of existing installations and provides expert witness for cases involving electrical installations.
We also produce technical articles and publications based on the requirements of BS 7671 and related standards and legislation.
We are an ECA registered Consultant and Specifier.

Tim is a time-served electrician working in domestic, commercial and industrial installations.
Tim spent 16 years lecturing in electrical installation, electrical engineering and building services.
Tim Benstead started working for the Electrical Safety Council in 2006 as a Senior Standards Engineer working on the NICEIC Technical Manual (Essential Guide), Connections articles, publications and certificates. In 2013 Tim began working has the Principal Engineer/Technical Author for Certsure and was responsible for sign off on all technical publications for the NICEIC and ELECSA.
During this time Tim led a team of Technical Authors/Engineers and Technical Illustrators who produced the highly regarded NICEIC/ELECSA certificates, books and articles along with training material.
Tim was Chair of the internal Certsure Technical Committee and has been a member of a number of BSI Technical Committees since 2007, including FSH12 and FSH12/1 (the committees responsible for BS 5839-1 and BS 5839-6 fire detection and fire alarm system standards). Tim is Chair of JPELB/64 (Thermal effects) and sits on JPEL64 the IET Wiring Standard. Tim is also a member of FSH17 responsible for the creation of BS 8629 (Emergency evacuation systems).
Tim is a member of CIBSE Electrical Services Group responsible, amongst other things, for updating Guide K, and a member of the IET Wiring Regulations Policy Committee.

Over the last four years he has worked as the Technical Illustrator for CERTSURE LLP, (encompassing the NICEIC and ELECSA brands) rebranding and illustrating books and articles for the Technical Publishing department.
Aside from technical publications, he has worked on a wide range of illustration and design, animation and short film projects for the cultural sector.

FE lecturer concentrating on BTEC and HNC courses associated with electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering.
After leaving the college environment, Terry and a colleague created the highly regarded B&B Training Associates Ltd, producing Electrical Installation course material for colleges and training establishments. Within this organisation he co-wrote and created the technical electrical illustrations.
Terry then joined Certsure within a team of technical authors/engineers and technical illustrators, producing the highly regarded NICEIC/ELECSA certificates, books and articles along with training material. Within this team he added his specialised knowledge of electrical principles and electronic.
Terrys qualifications include; BA (Electrical Engineering), PGCE, level 3 electrical installation and numerous other electrical installation based certificates. He is also an Incorporated engineer (I.Eng) and Member of the IET.
Since retiring from Certsure, Terry keeps himself busy joining TimBenstead Associates Ltd as part of the publishing arm of the business.
Away from his work, Terry enjoys driving around the North Yorkshire Moors in his Triumph Stag or pedalling along the Yorkshire Wolds enjoying the wide open spaces.
